A 25-year-old male, identified as Devin Lamar Nelson, has been charged and arrested by the Killeen Police Traffic Unit in connection with a five-vehicle crash that occurred on Friday, October 13, 2023, in the 1300 Block of E Stan Schlueter Loop.
The Bell County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and issued a complaint charging Nelson with Intoxication Assault. A warrant was subsequently issued by Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson. On Wednesday, December 13, 2023, Nelson voluntarily turned himself in to the Killeen City Jail.
Justice of the Peace Nicola James arraigned Nelson on Thursday, December 14, 2023, setting his bond at $150,000. Currently, Nelson is in custody at the Bell County Jail awaiting further legal proceedings.
The incident took place on Friday, October 13, 2023, at approximately 7:34 p.m. Officers were dispatched to the 1300 Block of E Stan Schlueter Loop in response to the crash. Upon arrival, they discovered five vehicles involved in the incident.
According to the preliminary investigation, a blue Dodge Charger was traveling eastbound on E Stan Schlueter Loop in the inside lane near the intersection of E Stan Schlueter Loop and Trimmier Road. The Charger exited its lane, colliding with a vehicle in the outside lane. Subsequently, the Charger continued eastbound at a high speed, striking a second vehicle in the left-hand turn only lane in the 1300 Block of E Stan Schlueter Loop. Continuing its trajectory, the Charger collided with a third vehicle before losing control and crashing head-on into a westbound vehicle. The Dodge Charger caught fire following the collision.
Emergency services responded promptly, and patients from all involved vehicles were transported to local hospitals with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The thorough investigation required the closure of the roadway for several hours to gather essential information and evidence related to the crash.
