Verbal Altercation Ends with Fatal Shooting in East Fort Worth

On Tuesday, March 5th, 2024, at around 3:30 p.m., the Fort Worth Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 6700 block of Bridge St near 820 and I-30 in East Fort Worth.

Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male victim suffering from gunshot wounds to his torso. Despite efforts to provide aid, the victim was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.

According to detectives, the victim was engaged in a verbal altercation with three suspects at a nearby business before the shooting occurred. One of the suspects brandished a firearm and fired multiple rounds, striking the victim at least once. The suspects fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.

The Fort Worth Police Department's Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation and is actively pursuing leads. They urge anyone with information or video footage related to the incident to contact the Fort Worth Police non-emergency line at 817-392-4222. UPDATE: The victim was identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner as 21-year-old Damarreon JaQuez Barnett of Everman, Texas.
