Contractor Arrested for Theft After Failed Parker County Home Renovation Deal

Michael Eric Haefner

Parker County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division hasarrested Michael Eric Haefner, 48, in connection with a theft investigation related to his company, Freedom Remodeling, LLC. The company works out of Fort Worth. The arrest follows a report from a woman who hired the company in early May 2022 to repair damages caused by a water leak at her home. According to Sheriff Russ Authier, a company representative quoted the victim $23,390.04 for the renovation job and received an initial payment of over $18,000.

After the initial payment, the victim did not hear from the company for several months.  After numerous attempts to make contact, a representative finally started the job in August 2022, but minimal work was done and no one returned to complete the job.

After several failed contacts, the victim requested a refund in September 2023.  In February of 2024, the victim was able to make contact with Haefner, but he claimed that her issue was with a former employee of the company.  He stopped all contact with the victim.  The victim proceeded to file a port with the sheriff's office.

Sheriff’s investigators obtained a subpoena for company records, confirming the payment and lack of completed work, with the company owing the victim more than $9,000. Subsequently, a warrant was issued for Haefner’s arrest.

Haefner faces a felony charge of theft of property following his arrest on Monday. The case underscores the importance of vigilance when hiring contractors and highlights the legal consequences for failing to fulfill contractual obligations.
