On the evening of August 11, 2024, at approximately 9:30 PM, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office assisted Tarrant County Deputies in pursuing a vehicle that had entered Johnson County. The pursuit ended near Mansfield when the vehicle's occupants fled into a nearby house. Deputies entered the residence to arrest the driver.
During the arrest, Johnson County Deputy Austin Reed was shot in the hip while attempting to subdue a resisting suspect. Deputy Reed was transported to the hospital, where he was treated for a non-life-threatening wound. He is expected to make a full recovery.
The Texas Rangers have taken control of the crime scene and will be conducting the investigation. The driver of the vehicle was arrested, and the other occupants were detained and transported to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
