Officer Shoots and Kills Man Wielding Dagger in Waxahachie

On Sunday, October 6, 2024, at approximately 9:27 p.m., the Waxahachie Police Department (WPD) responded to a disturbance call on West Jefferson Street. Upon arrival, officers found a 27-year-old white male, identified as Larry Reeves III, holding a large dagger in the street near a female.

Officers attempted to deescalate the situation, but tensions rose when Reeves refused multiple commands to drop the weapon and moved toward the female. In response, an officer discharged his firearm at Reeves, who retaliated by throwing the dagger at the officer. The officer then fired additional rounds.

Emergency personnel from the WPD and Waxahachie Fire-Rescue Department performed life-saving measures on Reeves, who was transported to Baylor Scott & White Waxahachie Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Next of kin have been notified.

No other injuries were reported from the incident. The Texas Rangers are conducting an independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
