Collin County residents will soon have access to a new passport acceptance facility at the Collin County Courthouse, located at 2100 Bloomdale Road, McKinney, TX. The facility, set to open on November 4, 2024, will provide much-needed passport services to the community, operating alongside the District Clerk's office on the courthouse's first floor.
The reopening was led by Collin County District Clerk Mike Gould, who began working toward this goal in 2023. “We made a trip to Washington, D.C. in March 2023 to meet with our Collin County Congressional delegation to seek their assistance... We stayed hopeful and finally received word in February 2024 that we were approved,” said Gould.
The initiative was supported by Congressman Keith Self (CD-3), who noted the collaboration with fellow Representatives Pat Fallon (CD-4) and Colin Allred (CD-32). "Our efforts have paid off," said Self, while Fallon called it “a win for Collin County,” and Allred highlighted the convenience it will bring for residents.
The Collin County passport offices were initially closed in 2019 due to an investigation, but new procedures have been implemented to ensure proper service and accountability. Initially, the facility will operate by appointment only, with future plans for walk-up services.
This initiative was further backed by County Judge Chris Hill and the Collin County Commissioners’ Court, who held discussions in April 2024 regarding the reopening strategy.
