Detectives with the Killeen Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division presented their case to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office on April 18, 2025, resulting in a Murder charge against 27-year-old Jermaine Justin Attaway. Justice of the Peace Nicola James arraigned Attaway and ordered that he be held without bond. He is currently in the Bell County Jail.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, 47-year-old Salathiel Andre Witherspoon Jr., was at a gathering at a residence in the 600 block of Gray Street when Attaway arrived and allegedly attempted to force entry by kicking the front door. As Witherspoon held the door from the inside to prevent Attaway from entering, Attaway discharged a firearm, striking Witherspoon.
Justice of the Peace Nicola James pronounced Salathiel Andre Witherspoon Jr. deceased at 8:20 p.m.
