DALLAS/FORT WORTH, TX – DFW Airport has announced the first new artists whose installations will be featured in the reimagined Terminal C, with pieces set to celebrate the unique natural heritage of North Texas. These new artworks are part of a significant expansion that will grow the airport's public art collection by 60% over the next six years.
"Prairie Haven" by Rose
Rose's piece, "Prairie Haven," will pay homage to the Blackland Prairie, the native ecosystem that has historically enriched North Texas. This installation is designed to align with DFW’s commitment to sustainability, capturing the intricate textures and colors of native grasslands. It will use delicate porcelain forms threaded onto brass rods, creating a captivating and elegant centerpiece suspended from the ceiling in a passenger sitting area, located immediately after a new security checkpoint.
"Celebrating Trinity River" by White
White's suspended art installation, "Celebrating Trinity River," is set to honor the vital waterway that geographically connects Dallas and Fort Worth. Utilizing a lightweight, custom aluminum chain system, the artwork will depict the region’s diverse flora and fauna in a flowing, tapestry-like form, reflecting the area's natural history. This vibrant and atmospheric piece will greet passengers as they descend toward the baggage claim area, suspended above a high-traffic escalator and stairwell.
Expanding DFW's Public Art Collection
DFW Airport’s public art program currently boasts around 30 permanent installations. The addition of 16 new installations over the next six years will significantly expand this collection. The airport is dedicated to commissioning art that not only enhances the customer experience but also transforms public spaces and reflects the rich cultural vibrancy of North Texas. Global art consultancy and production agency MASSIVart is managing the multi-phased call for new artists and art installations for DFW.
