A Glen Rose man has been sentenced to 65 years in prison for causing a devastating crash that claimed six lives just after Christmas in 2023.
Luke Garrett Resecker, now 19, was 17 years old when he crossed into oncoming traffic on Highway 67 near Cleburne on December 26, 2023, striking a Honda Odyssey head-on. The crash killed six people ranging in age from 9 to 64.
Resecker was driving a Chevy Silverado at the time of the collision. Investigators found THC inside his truck, and toxicology results confirmed he had active THC—the psychoactive compound in cannabis—in his system.
The victims in the Honda Odyssey included 28-year-old Rushil Barri of Irving, who was driving, and five members of a family from Atlanta who were visiting Texas for the holidays: 64-year-old P. Nageswara Rao, 60-year-old Seetha Mahalakshmi, their daughter 36-year-old Naveena, and grandchildren 10-year-old Kruthik and 9-year-old Nishita.
One survivor from the crash was left paralyzed from the waist down, and Resecker’s passenger, 17-year-old Preston Glass, suffered a traumatic brain injury.
The case was prosecuted in Johnson County by Assistant District Attorneys Connor Day and Stephanie Miller. During closing arguments, ADA Miller said, “Justice for Rushil, Justice for Naveena, Justice for Nageswararao, Justice for Sitamahalakshmi, Justice for Kruthik, Justice for Nishidharaman, and Justice for Lokesh and justice for this community.”
In a statement, the Johnson and Somervell County District Attorney’s Office expressed gratitude to the jury, officers, and prosecutors: “This was by no means an easy case, and their commitment to seeking justice made all the difference.”
Resecker was sentenced to 65 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, bringing closure to a case that has deeply impacted families across two states.
This tragedy stands as a stark reminder of the irreversible consequences of impaired and reckless driving.
