Killeen Police: One Dead, Suspect Shot After Standoff and Officer-Involved Shooting

KILLEEN, TX - A deadly shooting early Sunday morning, November 2nd, led to a standoff and officer-involved shooting in Killeen, according to police.

Around 3:10 a.m., Killeen officers responded to a shots fired call in the 600 block of Blake Street. When they arrived, a man ran out of a home and told officers another person inside had been shot.

As police began their investigation, gunfire erupted from inside the residence, forcing officers to take cover. The Killeen Police Tactical Response Unit was called in, and SWAT officers later breached the door.

Inside, they found a 25-year-old man near the entrance suffering from gunshot wounds. As officers tried to pull him to safety, the suspect — a 36-year-old man — opened fire again. Officers returned fire, hitting the suspect.

The suspect was airlifted to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, where he remains in stable condition. The 25-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officer involved in the shooting, a four-year veteran of the department, has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard policy.

The Killeen Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is leading the case, with assistance from Internal Affairs and the Bell County District Attorney’s Office.
