DENTON, TX - The Texas Rangers are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead early Sunday morning, November 2nd, after he allegedly opened fire on vehicles and officers in a Denton neighborhood.
According to the Denton Police Department, dispatchers received a 911 call around 3:55 a.m. reporting that an armed man was shooting at unoccupied vehicles in the 1300 block of Oxford Lane.
When officers arrived, the suspect began firing at them. Officers took cover, established a perimeter, and attempted to communicate with the man, but he continued to shoot in their direction. Officers then returned fire, striking the suspect.
Police immediately provided first aid until medics arrived. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity will be released by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office after his family is notified.
No officers or other residents were injured during the incident.
Per department policy, the four Denton officers involved have been placed on administrative leave while the department’s Internal Affairs Unit conducts an administrative investigation. The Texas Rangers are leading the criminal investigation.
