FORT WORTH, Texas - Fort Worth Police Department officers are investigating a fatal shooting that stemmed from an argument between friends at an apartment complex on the city’s west side.
On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at approximately 6:30 p.m., West Division officers were dispatched to an apartment complex near the 9500 block of Jeremiah Drive after reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
Officers immediately began rendering CPR until they were relieved by Fort Worth Fire Department EMS personnel. The victim was transported to a local hospital for continued medical treatment but later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased several hours after the incident.
Detectives with the Gun Violence Unit determined that the shooting followed a dispute between friends. According to investigators, the argument began over an order of french fries that the victim did not want to share. The verbal disagreement escalated and ultimately ended in gunfire. The suspect fled the apartment immediately after the shooting.
Police interviewed multiple witnesses and have identified the suspected shooter, who is believed to live in the same apartment complex. Officers searched the surrounding area and the suspect’s apartment but were unable to locate him.
Detectives say the incident appears to be isolated, and there is no ongoing threat to the general public. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will officially identify the victim and determine the cause and manner of death.
