GLENN HEIGHTS, Texas - Glenn Heights officials announced new community partnerships with AT&T, United Way, and Compudopt following a successful laptop giveaway that placed much-needed technology directly into the hands of residents.
Through the collaborative effort, Glenn Heights residents received free laptops equipped with Microsoft Office, fully funded and installed by AT&T. Compudopt is also providing two years of complimentary technical support, ensuring recipients have ongoing assistance as they use their new devices. City leaders say the initiative was designed to close the digital divide and better prepare residents for education, employment, and daily life in an increasingly digital world.
City officials noted the laptop distribution aligns with Mayor Brown’s 21st-century city framework, which emphasizes modern infrastructure, educational access, and community well-being. Access to reliable technology plays a critical role in workforce development, online learning, telehealth services, and civic engagement.
For many participants, the impact was deeply personal. One resident shared that she is returning to school and was unsure how she would afford a laptop to continue her education. Another recipient described the moment as receiving her “first computer ever,” highlighting how transformative the event was for local families.
Mayor Sonja A. Brown reflected on the significance of the initiative, saying, “This was one of those moments that reminds you exactly why public service matters. Seeing the relief, the excitement, and the hope on our residents’ faces was incredibly powerful. These laptops are more than devices. They represent access, confidence, and opportunity.”
With software installed and long-term technical support in place, city leaders say residents are now better equipped to pursue education, seek employment, build digital skills, and access essential online services that support economic stability and quality of life.
Mayor Brown emphasized that the effort is part of a broader, ongoing commitment to equity across the city. “Closing the digital divide is not a one-time effort. It is an ongoing responsibility,” she said. “When we invest in access, we invest in people.”
The City of Glenn Heights expressed its appreciation to AT&T, United Way, and Compudopt for their partnership and shared commitment to empowering communities through expanded access to technology.
