DUNCANVILLE, Texas — A man was killed and another injured in a shooting early Sunday morning outside a Duncanville business, with a suspect later taken into custody, police said.
Officers responded around 12:03 a.m. on April 12, 2026, to a reported shooting at Red Bird Lanes, located at 1114 South Main Street. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds near the front entrance.
Police said officers rendered aid before the victim was transported to Methodist Charlton Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.
While officers were on scene, a second gunshot victim arrived at the same hospital. Authorities said that individual is in serious but stable condition and is expected to survive.
Witnesses reported the suspect fled the scene on foot. Officers established a perimeter and began searching the area, utilizing the department’s Drone as First Responder program to assist in locating the suspect.
The suspect was found in an open field west of the 900 block of South Main Street and taken into custody without incident. He was identified as 29-year-old Torry Ray Smith.
Officers also recovered what is believed to be the weapon used in the shooting near the location of the arrest.
Police said the incident appears to be isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Smith is currently being held at the Tri-City Regional Jail on a pending murder charge. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
Smith has a long list of arrests in Dallas County and a couple of convictions. Just this past January, he was sentenced to 30 days in county jail on drug possession. Before that, he was sentenced to 5 years in prison in 2015 for a shooting.
