TARRANT COUNTY, Texas — Texas Game Wardens are continuing the search for a missing man after he disappeared beneath the water while attempting to rescue a child at Benbrook Lake on Saturday afternoon.
According to Texas Game Wardens, officers responded to Benbrook Lake at approximately 1 p.m. on June 27 for a possible water fatality.
Witnesses told investigators that two men jumped from a boat to help a child who was in the water. One of the men went underwater and never resurfaced.
Search crews spent Saturday afternoon and evening searching the northeast portion of Benbrook Lake near Longhorn Park Drive. High winds and rough water conditions hampered search efforts.
The search resumed Sunday morning, June 28, with assistance from the Texas Game Warden Underwater Search and Recovery Team, local game wardens, and multiple emergency response agencies.
Texas Game Wardens said the Benbrook Lake incident was one of several water-related fatalities and emergencies they responded to across the state over the weekend.
Other incidents occurred at:
- Lake Travis in Travis County
- Lake Fryer in Ochiltree County
- Galveston Bay in Galveston County
- Lake Jacksonville in Cherokee County
- Lake Brownwood in Brown County
Game wardens reminded the public that many water-related tragedies can be prevented by following basic safety precautions, including wearing a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket, avoiding alcohol or drugs while operating a boat, closely supervising children, using an emergency engine cut-off switch, monitoring changing weather conditions, and avoiding unnecessary risks.
The search for the missing man at Benbrook Lake remains ongoing.
