FORT WORTH, Texas — A man was fatally shot Sunday night after police say he approached a resident with a machete while allegedly assaulting a woman in Fort Worth's Northside neighborhood.
According to the Fort Worth Police Department, officers responded at approximately 10:20 p.m. on June 28 to the 2900 block of Ross Avenue following reports of a person with a weapon.
When officers arrived, they found an adult man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Officers and Fort Worth Fire Department personnel provided emergency medical care before the man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The preliminary investigation determined the man and an adult woman had been involved in a verbal and physical altercation.
Witnesses told investigators the man was dragging the woman down the street while holding a machete. Neighbors heard the woman screaming for help, and one resident came outside and ordered the man to stop.
Police said the man then approached the resident with the machete. The resident fired at least one shot, striking the man.
The resident remained at the scene and cooperated with homicide detectives.
No arrests have been made.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the victim's identity, as well as the official cause and manner of death.
The investigation remains ongoing.
