DALLAS, Texas - The Dallas Police Department has released new details and body-worn camera footage from an officer-involved shooting reported by Irving Weekly that occurred during the arrest of an armed carjacking suspect on Aug. 6.
The incident, which occurred in the 5800 block of Williamstown Road, marks the ninth officer-involved shooting involving the Dallas Police Department in 2026. Officials emphasized that the information released is preliminary and could change as the investigation continues.
Child Threatened During Porsche Carjacking
According to investigators, officers responded at approximately 9:10 a.m. to a robbery in progress at a business in the 3500 block of Sunnyvale Street.
Police said a woman had parked her white Porsche Cayenne outside the business while her 9-year-old daughter remained inside the vehicle.
Investigators allege Renard McFadden, 39, arrived in a stolen Ford F-150, approached the Porsche, threatened the child while indicating he was armed, and ordered her out of the SUV. The girl ran into the business to alert her mother.
When the victim confronted McFadden, police said he again indicated he was armed before stealing the Porsche and fleeing. The stolen Ford F-150 was left at the scene and was later confirmed to have been stolen.
The victim used the Porsche's tracking application to provide officers with the vehicle's real-time location, allowing patrol officers, covert units, and Air One to coordinate efforts to locate the suspect.
Officer Mistaken for Suspect During Arrest
At approximately 10:10 a.m., officers located the stolen Porsche in the 5800 block of Williamstown Road and initiated a felony traffic stop.
Police said a covert officer positioned an unmarked police vehicle in front of the Porsche to prevent McFadden from escaping. The covert officer exited with his department-issued handgun drawn and moved toward a nearby residential yard.
During the operation, Officer Celso Rocha fired four rounds toward the covert officer and McFadden.
According to the department, Rocha quickly realized the individual in front of him was another Dallas police officer, immediately stopped firing, and can be heard on body camera footage yelling, "Blue, Blue," indicating the person was law enforcement.
McFadden then exited the stolen Porsche and surrendered without further incident.
No officers, the suspect, or any members of the public were injured.
Firearm Recovered, Additional Charges Possible
Investigators recovered a loaded handgun from inside the stolen Porsche.
Police said additional evidence recovered from the vehicle is being examined as part of several ongoing violent crime investigations.

Detectives said they are pursuing additional charges related to other violent crimes still under investigation.
Investigation Continues
The Dallas Police Department's Special Investigations Unit is leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. The Dallas County District Attorney's Office responded to the scene and will conduct an independent investigation. The Office of Community Police Oversight has also been notified.
The department said the released video includes body-worn camera footage, dash camera video, surveillance footage, and police radio traffic presented in chronological order to provide context for the incident.
Police said the investigation remains active and additional information may be released as evidence is analyzed and the review continues.
