The Irving Police Department is investigating a pick-up truck and lawn trailer theft which occurred in the 2600 Block of Quail Valley at approximately 3:07 am on April 6, 2016. Officers were in the area looking for a suspicious vehicle which was possibly involved in a separate offense when they attempted to stop the pick-up truck and trailer for a traffic violation. A silver vehicle was observed driving in front of the truck and trailer. When officers attempted to stop the truck, the truck and second vehicle fled. Both vehicles went in separate directions at SH Loop 12 and I30 in Dallas causing two simultaneous pursuits.
The pursuit involving the pick-up truck and trailer ended on the North Service Road of I30 and Chalk Hill Road when the suspect crashed. The sole occupant of the truck was arrested at the scene after a short foot pursuit. The truck and trailer were confirmed stolen out of Irving. The pursuit of the silver vehicle ended in the area of Iroquois and Gallager Street in Dallas. Both occupants fled the scene on foot and escaped. The silver vehicle did not appear to be stolen. There were no injuries sustained in either pursuit. The arrested suspect has been identified as, Benito Gutierrez 23 years of age. He has been booked into the Irving Municipal Jail on the two charges of Theft over 2,500-30,000, Evading Arrest with a Vehicle, and three Cockrell Hill PD traffic warrants. The investigation is ongoing.
