Lewisville Teacher Arrested for Sexual Assaulting 10-year-old Student

On Wednesday, April 19, 2023, a Lewisville Independent School District teacher was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child.

The Colony Police Department Officers arrested the Camey Elementary school teacher, John Collett, while serving a warrant for his arrest.

Collett is being charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony, and indecency with a child by sexual contact, a second-degree felony.

The Colony Police investigated a report from a parent who grew suspicious of the teacher after picking up her 10-year-old child from school last week.  Officers immediately responded to the home of the child and an investigation was initiated.

Collett was arrested and  booked into Denton County Jail on April 19  and bail has been set at $1.05 million.  He is facing up to 99 years in prison.

Collett was awarded Teacher of the Year in 2020 at Camey Elementary and was nominated last year for Best Teacher in Denton County.

At this time there are no other known victims, but The Colony PD is asking anyone who might have information or questions on this case to please contact TCPD School Resource Officer Sergeant Ryan Shipp at 972-624-3949.

The investigation is ongoing.
