Early this morning, the Trophy Club Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at a local four-story hotel. Crews arrived and located a small fire and heavy smoke in the unoccupied fitness room. A single sprinkler head directly above the burning equipment activated and kept the fire from growing until fire crews could fully extinguish the fire. The fire did not extend beyond the initial piece of equipment, and in a short amount of time, the room was cleared of smoke and the hotel occupants were able to reenter the building.
Fire crews replaced the sprinkler head, and the fire sprinkler system was recharged so that it could continue to protect the building and occupants. There were no injuries from this fire.
According Fire Officials, this fire was the perfect example of how a properly installed and maintained fire sprinkler system can quickly detect a fire in an unoccupied room, set off the fire alarm system to notify the building occupants, and send signals through the fire alarm system to quickly dispatch fire crews to the scene. The situation could have been much worse without a working fire sprinkler system.
