On June 13, at approximately 3:04 PM, a major accident occurred on Interstate 20 at the Eastbound 539 Mile Marker, prompting a swift response from the City of Van Fire Department, Van Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), and Christus EMS. The incident required immediate deployment of emergency personnel to offer aid and address the situation.
The accident involved a single vehicle, with one individual trapped inside. In a remarkable display of efficiency, the Fire Department wasted no time and initiated a rescue operation using their specialized Hurst eDraulics rescue tools, commonly referred to as the "Jaws of Life." Despite the challenging circumstances, the victim managed to stay conscious and maintained communication with the firefighters throughout the diligent process of freeing him from the wreckage.
Following the successful extrication, the injured individual was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment of their injuries.
Unfortunately, the accident resulted in the loss of the victim's service dog. Authorities at the scene handled the pet's remains with utmost care, arranging for it to be taken to a local funeral home until further arrangements could be made with the victim's family.
