The video, recorded on May 6, captures the intense moments as the officer bravely confronted the armed assailant, later identified as Mauricio Garcia of Dallas, and prevented further loss of life.
In the video, the officer can be seen shouting, "Drop the gun!" before discharging his weapon. Following the exchange of gunfire, he urgently instructs bystanders to vacate the area and immediately radios in, exclaiming, "I got him down!" The body camera footage was released with certain modifications, blurring the faces of civilians and victims while also censoring explicit language.
Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey, in a news release, emphasized the rapid escalation from a routine interaction to a life-and-death situation. He commended the officer for his swift recognition of the danger, as he courageously ran towards the sound of gunfire and neutralized the imminent threat. Chief Harvey expressed the everlasting gratitude of the Allen community for the officer's decisive actions.
The gripping video highlights the officer's quick response to the unfolding tragedy. In the footage, he swiftly retrieves his firearm and urges people to "Get moving!" while heading towards the source of the shots. At one point, while passing Garcia's silver vehicle with the driver's side door still open, he urgently informs dispatch, "I'm on foot, I need everybody I got!"
The Allen Premium Outlets mass shooting resulted in the tragic loss of eight lives. However, due to the bravery and selflessness of the Allen Police Department, further bloodshed was prevented.
