In a devastating incident that unfolded on the evening of July 3, 2023, a young man submerged beneath the surface of Lake Park's public beach area on Lewisville Lake and failed to resurface. The victim, estimated to be around 20 years old, was reportedly swimming without a life jacket when the incident occurred.
Eyewitnesses at the scene recounted that the individual had been swimming in the vicinity of a buoy before disappearing beneath the water. Speculation arose that the young man may have become entangled in the ropes connected to the buoy, leading to his tragic demise.
Following the distressing incident, the Lewisville Fire Department Dive Team swiftly arrived at the scene, plunging into the water at approximately 9 p.m. With urgency and determination, the divers successfully retrieved the unconscious victim at around 9:15 p.m. However, upon extraction, it was discovered that the young man was not breathing and had no detectable pulse.
Efforts to revive the victim commenced immediately, as emergency personnel performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while en route to Medical City Lewisville. Their intent was to provide the best possible chance for potential life-saving measures to be implemented.
Taking charge of the investigation into this tragic drowning incident on Lewisville Lake is the Game Warden.
UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Carlos Munoz, a resident of Dallas.
