71-Year-Old Woman Killed in Head-On Collision in Lake Worth was Driving Wrong Way

A 71-year-old woman was killed in a head-on collision on the Jim Wright Freeway service road near Azle Avenue on Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred at around 10:00am. Police say the woman, who has not been identified, pulled out of the QuikTrip on Marine Creek Parkway and headed southbound in the northbound lanes of the service road. A short time later, she collided head-on with another vehicle.

The woman was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, but later pronounced deceased from her injuries.

The other driver, a 45-year-old man, was not seriously hurt.

Lake Worth PD is handling the accident investigation.

Police say woman may have been confused

Police said that the woman may have been confused and thought she was driving on the southbound lanes of the service road. They are still investigating the cause of the crash, but they believe that confusion may have been a factor.
