The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is currently investigating a fatal accident involving a motorcycle that occurred on Saturday, July 15, at approximately 1:17 p.m. The incident took place on southbound Highway 287 at County Road 4228, prompting a swift response from the Decatur Fire Department, Wise County EMS, and DPS.
According to authorities, the accident transpired when a vehicle traveling on County Road 4228 failed to yield the right of way to a motorcycle heading southbound on the highway. The vehicle collided with the motorcycle, resulting in the ejection of the rider.
Emergency services immediately arrived at the scene, including an Air Evac Lifeteam, which swiftly airlifted the injured motorcyclist to a nearby hospital. Tragically, medical professionals at the hospital pronounced the motorcyclist, identified as 47-year-old Joseph Nunez from College Station, deceased shortly after his arrival.
The driver of the vehicle, 43-year-old Timothy Ashcraft from Alvord, escaped the incident without any injuries.
DPS is continuing to investigate the wreck, and no additional information is available.
