Suspect Apprehended in Waco for Aggravated Bank Robberies

On July 21, 2023, Waco Police arrested 42-year-old John Rainwater in the evening on two Federal Warrants related to bank robberies. Rainwater has been charged with two counts of bank robbery for his involvement in the aggravated bank robberies that occurred on April 30, 2022, and October 22, 2022.

The first incident, which took place on April 30, 2022, involved an aggravated bank robbery at the First Convenience Bank located inside Walmart at 600 Hewitt Drive. During this robbery, Rainwater allegedly demanded money, threatened the bank employees, claimed to possess a handgun, and tied their hands. Thankfully, no major injuries were reported in connection with this incident. After the robbery, Rainwater managed to flee the scene on foot, eluding law enforcement efforts to capture him.

The second bank robbery occurred on October 22, 2022, at the Texell Credit Union, situated at 1221 Hewitt Drive in Waco. On this occasion, Rainwater, described as a light-skinned male suspect, entered the building, brandished a firearm, and made off with an undisclosed amount of money. Similar to the previous incident, no injuries were reported, and Rainwater successfully evaded capture.

In their pursuit of the suspect, the Waco Police Department collaborated closely with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) - Waco Resident Agency, and the combined efforts of the Waco PD Special Crime’s Detectives, U.S. Marshals, and Lacy Lakeview PD. Their partnership proved instrumental in locating and apprehending John Rainwater, ultimately leading to the resolution of these investigations.

Authorities expressed their gratitude for the joint efforts of law enforcement agencies, acknowledging that such collaborative endeavors are essential in ensuring the safety and security of the community.

John Rainwater is currently in police custody and will face legal proceedings for his alleged involvement in the two bank robberies.
