In a swift and efficient response, the Odessa Police Department successfully apprehended three juvenile suspects responsible for a string of burglaries that took place at Acacia Park Apartments on August 7, 2023. The rapid resolution of the case was attributed to meticulous police work and keen observation by Patrol Captain Darryl Smith.
On that fateful Sunday, the Odessa Police Department received three separate complaints of burglaries at the Acacia Park Apartments, located in the 4800 block of Oakwood. Residents reported missing valuables and property damage, sparking immediate action from the law enforcement authorities.
Throughout the day, dedicated Patrol Officers and Detectives tirelessly pursued leads and scrutinized surveillance footage captured at the scene. The footage revealed three unidentified males committing the series of burglaries, providing a crucial piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation.
As the day progressed, Patrol Captain Darryl Smith, while meticulously reviewing video footage of officers on duty, made a pivotal discovery. He recognized a brief interaction between several officers and a group of juveniles that mirrored the suspects captured in the surveillance videos. Captain Smith's astute observation skills were pivotal in cracking the case wide open.
Captain Smith's identification of the juveniles led detectives to take immediate action. Responding to the lead, Property Detectives swiftly conducted a canvas of a neighboring complex. Their efforts were rewarded as they managed to locate and apprehend the three suspects. Notably, the suspects were found together, wearing the exact clothing they had been seen wearing in the surveillance footage.
The three suspects, aged 16, 16, and 13, now face multiple charges, including Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, Burglary of a Vehicle, and Attempted Burglary. They are currently detained at the Ector County Youth Center, awaiting legal proceedings.
