On Friday, October 20, 2023, at approximately 5:39 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Southside Drive in Killeen in response to a 911 call concerning a violent domestic incident involving weapons. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male in the roadway suffering from a stab wound, and a second male armed with a knife in close proximity.
In response to the immediate threat, a responding officer discharged his weapon, striking the armed male with the knife. Both individuals involved were subsequently transported to Baylor Scott & White in Temple for medical treatment.
The stabbing victim, a 36-year-old male, is currently in critical but stable condition. The armed male, aged 38, succumbed to his injuries.
In accordance with standard procedure, the officer involved, a 5-year veteran of the force, will be placed on administrative leave pending further investigation.
The Texas Rangers have taken over as the lead investigating agency, and the Killeen Police Department Internal Affairs Unit will be conducting an internal investigation into the incident.
UPDATE: The name of the deceased male has been identified as William Frank Lee.
