The Temple Police Department is currently investigating a "swatting" incident in which they responded to a false emergency call on Tuesday, October 31. At approximately 9:02 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of South 5th Street following reports of shots fired and two individuals sustaining injuries. In response to the call, numerous officers arrived at the scene, leading to the temporary closure of a section of South 5th Street. As the incident unfolded, investigators uncovered details that strongly suggest it was a "swatting" incident.
Swatting, a malicious act, is defined as making a hoax emergency call with the intention of prompting the dispatch of a significant number of emergency services personnel to a specific address. Such false calls are not only dangerous but also consume substantial police resources.
Upon reaching the location, officers made contact with the occupants of the residence, who were found to be safe and entirely unaware of the emergency call.
The investigation into this "swatting" incident is ongoing.
