In a collaborative effort, the Plano Police Department successfully apprehended four suspects on November 13th, 2023, who had traveled from New York and were involved in an organized fraud operation. The investigation was initiated when the Macy's store at Willow Bend Mall reported the use of fake identifications by the suspects to make unauthorized charges to unsuspecting customers' credit card accounts.
Plano Police detectives, alongside neighborhood and patrol officers, worked together to capture the suspects attempting to flee from the parking lot. A subsequent search of their vehicle led to the discovery of 40 forged driver's licenses and $18,340 in cash. Additionally, officers recovered high-end suits and cosmetics valued at $2,992.00, fraudulently obtained from the Plano Macy's. The suspects were also found in possession of more high-end clothing and cosmetics in the van, valued at $17,144.87, obtained fraudulently from stores in Dallas and Tennessee the day before.
Macy's has taken swift action, reversing $20,137 in fraudulent transactions charged to innocent and unknowing customers. The Plano Police Department expresses gratitude for its ongoing partnership with retailers, emphasizing the importance of this collaboration in preventing losses and holding individuals accountable.
While the investigation is still ongoing, the department's proactive efforts have already prevented further harm to the community, with potential nationwide implications.
