In the early hours of Friday night, Nov 24, 2023, tragedy struck on Highway 287 between Midlothian Parkway and Plainview Road, as a fatal accident claimed the lives of two individuals.
At approximately midnight, Midlothian Fire/EMS and Police responded to reports of a vehicle crash with entrapment along the eastbound (southbound) lanes of the highway. Authorities determined that a wrong-way driver had caused a head-on collision, resulting in one of the vehicles catching fire.
Upon arrival, officers found the wrong-way vehicle engulfed in flames. Both the driver and one passenger inside the vehicle were pronounced deceased at the scene. Another passenger from the wrong-way vehicle was airlifted to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle struck by the wrong-way driver also sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.
The victims have been identified as two 38-year-old females.
