The Grapevine Police Department is currently investigating a fatal crash that occurred in the 4200 block of North SH-121 near Freeport Parkway. The incident took place at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023.
According to authorities, the driver of a passenger van was traveling northbound in the far left lane when, for reasons yet to be determined, the van suddenly crossed all lanes of traffic and collided with a bridge support on the right side of the roadway.
The van quickly caught fire, becoming engulfed in flames. Despite efforts by witnesses to rescue the driver, they were unsuccessful. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the van, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The official identification of the deceased is pending notification to the next of kin, and the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office will handle the process.
In response to the incident, Northbound SH-121 was temporarily shut down as investigative crews worked at the scene. The Grapevine Police Department expressed gratitude to Grapevine Fire and Coppell Police for their assistance, as well as to the witnesses who stopped and attempted to help following the accident.
