IRVING, Texas - A 38-year-old man was arrested weeks after Irving police said he forced his way into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment in Las Colinas and threatened to kill her while armed with a knife.
According to the Irving Police Department, officers responded shortly after midnight on April 27 to a welfare check at an apartment complex in the 300 block of West Fork near Lake Carolyn.
Investigators said the victim told officers her ex-boyfriend, identified as Eduardo Castro-Lopez, confronted her outside the apartment after she was dropped off by friends and demanded to see her phone because he was jealous.
The woman refused and walked toward her apartment, according to police. Authorities said Castro-Lopez followed her and demanded to be let inside once they reached the front door.
When she refused again, investigators said Castro-Lopez used his own key to unlock the apartment and entered the residence.
Police said Castro-Lopez grabbed the victim by the hair and forced her inside before retrieving a metal butcher knife from the kitchen.
According to investigators, he continued demanding access to the victim’s phone and threatened to kill her and then himself when she refused.
Authorities said Castro-Lopez raised the knife over his head and attempted to stab the woman in the neck while standing over her. The victim used her hands to block the attack and suffered a cut to the palm of her right hand during the struggle.
Fearing for her life, the victim eventually gave Castro-Lopez her phone passcode and the device, according to police. Investigators said he then fled the apartment.
Officers later obtained a warrant charging Castro-Lopez with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony.
Police said Castro-Lopez was located and arrested May 17 at approximately 9 p.m. He was booked into the Irving Jail before being transferred to the Dallas County Jail on May 19.
Authorities said his bond was set at $25,000, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement requested a hold on him related to an immigration violation.
