Irving Man Stabs Grandmother, Mother During Sudden Violent Attack Inside Vehicle

IRVING, Texas - An Irving man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he stabbed his grandmother and mother during a violent attack outside an apartment complex in Las Colinas.

According to the Irving Police Department, officers responded around 3:18 p.m. on May 17 to a reported stabbing at the Las Colinas Heights Apartments in the 3700 block of O’Connor Road.

Investigators said 33-year-old Johnathon Smith was riding in the back seat of a red Cadillac with his grandmother and mother when the vehicle stopped near the apartment complex.

The arrest report states that Smith suddenly grabbed a knife and stabbed his grandmother multiple times in the neck, causing serious bodily injury and creating a substantial risk of death.

Authorities said Smith then stabbed his mother several times in the hands, forearms, and chest as she attempted to defend the grandmother during the attack.

The grandmother was transported to a local hospital in serious condition, where she reportedly required chest tubes after suffering collapsed lungs.

Smith’s mother also suffered severe injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

According to police, the grandmother was able to speak with officers and told investigators she feared she was going to die during the attack.

Smith was taken into custody at the scene and booked into the Irving Jail.

He is charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury with a weapon and domestic violence aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Authorities said investigators have not released details about what may have led to the attack.

Smith remains in custody at the Dallas County Jail with bond set at $250,000.
